Xiu-jun Cai, Chief Physician, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, a distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education and the national “ten thousand people plan” leading talents. He is standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Director of the National Engineering Research Center of Innovation and Application of Minimally Invasive Instruments, Vice Chairman of the Surgery Branch of Chinese Medical Association, Chairman of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Committee of the Chinese Physicians Association of Surgery Branch, President of the Translational Medicine Branch of the China Association of Medical Equipment. Dr. Cai is the founder of the discipline of minimally invasive medicine in China. He invented laparoscopic multifunctional operative dissector and established the technique of liver resection by curettage and aspiration, degradable intestinal stents and new surgical procedures and developed the completely laparoscopic “two-step” liver resection with a round-the-liver ligature. He has undertaken major national research projects, such as“863 Program” and National Natural Science Foundation of China. Dr. Cai has been awarded the National Technology Invention Award, the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education and the Zhejiang Science and Technology Progress Award.
