Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) and Director and Head of High Energy Astrophysics at MPE. He graduated from Churchill College, Cambridge, UK, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Leicester in 1992. He has been Professor of Astrophysics at Imperial College London, UK, and Research Scientist at USRA, NASA/GSFC. His research interests include high-energy astrophysics, X-ray astronomy, black holes, active galactic nuclei, galaxy clusters, and X-ray surveys. He has published over 300 papers in refereed journals with over 40,000 citations and an H-index of 96.
