Wu is an expert in fiber optic transmission networks and broadband information networks and a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He was Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of the China Internet Association, Vice President and Chief Engineer of the Institute of Telecommunications Science and Technology and Deputy Director of Datang Telecom Group. He mainly engaged in research on fiber optic transmission systems, next-generation internet, broadband mobile communications, and engineering science and technology development strategies.
